Drive for scientific research

Gladysz points[1] out:
In judging quality, it is certainly possible for a given scientific community to become hypercritical. However, it is also important to avoid uncritical and semi-evangelical lovefests.. New synthesis methods are constantly being developed with the idea of improving or replacing older non or less green technology. There are obvious questions such as: (a) Do the new methods constitute genuine improvements? (2)Which of several competing new technologies is the best or how do the trade-offs compare? (c) which evaulation criteria are most important?

When writing papers for publication or proposals for funding, we try to emphasize the drive or reasons why we continue the research mentioned. Sometimes, we try to emphasie the pros, but ingore some drawback for this research?
What should we follow when continuing our research?
